Elastic Drive Belts

The Superior elastic belt drive is used primarily in fractional horsepower applications where a quiet, dependable operation is a necessity. The flexible elastic drive belt is ideally suited for unusual configurations at both high and low speed.

Superior belts are made from a quality spandex thread covered by a blend of synthetic and cotton thread in a patented three-ply construction. Various abrasion-resistant treatments are added, giving the belts improved flexibility and traction.

Belts can be made to your specifications. The following factors will help you determine where Superior can be used in your applications:

Pulley root diameter should be at least six times belt cross-section diameter.
Half round pulleys are recommended for Superior's belts, however, in many applications they are being used in V-groove pulleys.
Surface speed loss should be calculated at 13% and belt efficiency at 80%.

All applications that appear to be borderline should be sent to Superior's engineering department.

The Superior elastic drive belt eliminates vibration - joint bump and the need for belt take-up components.

The flexibility, traction and durability of Superior elastic belts have been proven in textile machinery drives, plastic bag manufacturing, conveyers and many other applications requiring extremely durable round belts.

The elastic drive belt, available in treated or untreated elastic types, is made to your specifications in sizes from 0.025 to 0.50 diameter and from 3 inches to 20 feet in circumferences.

Superior elastic belts can be made with elasticity, or stretch, from 20% to 150%. Superior's designs are also furnished for diverse applications requiring a clip-type drive belt.

Superior developed the only valid patent on a twisted elastic drive belt - a three-ply belt, which lasts several times longer than O-ring type belts. A long-time leader in the textile industry, Superior has seen more than half the textile mills in the nation standardized on these belts and now the belts are available for all industry.

Superior belts are ideal for fixed center drives where belt stretch causes a problem. The elastic feature also allows this belt to drive eccentric pulleys, and pulley centers can be changed without changing the belt.

Superior's clip type drive belts are available in the same sizes as our elastic drive belt. These clip belts are ideal for fixed shaft or closed applications where an endless belt is impractical or complicated to install. The belt can readily be fitted around the drive radius and joined easily together with the already installed clip or hook. Millions of these type belts have been used by various industries.
